Learning Team Years 1 & 2

Three attractive classrooms make up this Learning Team and are numbered Rooms 1, 2 and 4.  Each classroom consists of students in Year 1 and Year 2 and each class has approximately 20 students in it. 

All new students starting are teamed up with a ‘buddy’ who helps them find their way around the school. Students may move from their Home Room for Maths, where they are grouped with students of similar ability.  Each week all students are involved in Interchange of classes for Physical Education, Music, Dance and Drama.

The Learning Team comes together for a number of activities and most activities off the school site (Education Outside the Classroom EOTC) are taken by the whole Learning Team. 

The Perceptual Motor Programme (PMP) is operating throughout the Team. A three week Swim Safe programme is undertaken each year and is at the local Timaru District Council pool.

An attractive Adventure Playground is available to all Learning Teams on a roster system so students of similar age are playing together.  There is also a sandpit which is used by the younger students.  Lunch hour sport is encouraged with ‘Active in Sport’ instructors coming into the school and taking each Learning Team for a variety of sport.   Students also have access to the P.E. Shed and are encouraged to use this equipment in the morning tea break and lunch break.
